Most of these films that are made from children's television shows end up being worse than the original.

What works in a half-hour show doesn't translate well to the big screen where extra plot and character development are needed.

However, with Yu-Gi-Oh! it takes three or four episodes to finish one storyline.  If this fails it will be because it's not long enough to accommodate everything that can possibly happen.

For the first time there will probably be more plot than there is card playing.  Could be a nice change.

The game of Duel Monsters takes an unsuspected turn as something under the sand of Egypt rises to challenge Yugi and his friends.

It's up to our young hero with the help of the Pharaoh locked away in the millennium puzzle to stop this evil that was stopped before many years ago.

Based on the popular trading card game and television series.
~A tale of two Yugies~
Whenever television shows are brought to the silver screen they rarely manage to live up to the quality of the original program.
Normally it's because they can't find enough in the way of a storyline to fill a feature-length film.
In this movie it's for the exact opposite reason.  There is so much back story involved mashed into the first half of the film, that it leaves even those familiar with the story a little confused.
But once the main battle to save the world begins, it morphs into a film worthy of the series.
   Unfortunately, only the true
Yu-Gi-Oh! fans will still be interested by the time it gets there.
Seto Kaiba is still angry over losing a game of Duel Monsters to Yugi, dethroning him as champion.  This anger has turned to hatred as he once again loses in the Battle City Tournament.
Now completely obsessed with regaining his title, Kaiba will do anything to beat Yugi.  That includes going to the creator of Duel Monsters, Maximillion Pegasus.

Once again the half-hour series did not work well as a feature-length film.

The first half was filled with old jokes and generally bad storytelling.  It was obvious they were trying to cram too much story into the beginning and it just didn't work.

However, once the main event started the last half of the movie was as enjoyable as a regular episode would be.
god cards, Kaiba bets his most prized possessions, his three blue eyes white dragon cards in a rematch against Pegasus.
So focused on his task, Kaiba does not realize that there is another new card that has been slipped in Pegasus' deck.
When Yugi originally put together the millennium puzzle that released his alter ego and spirit guide Yami, it also awakened the spirit trapped in the pyramid of light.
Anubis is this evil spirit who was once defeated by Yami and has slipped a card with sinister purposes into Pegasus' deck where Kaiba finds it.
After tricking Yugi to his new game arena, Kaiba challenges his rival to one final match to prove who can be called King of Games.
Yugi is poised to win the match when Kaiba uses his new pyramid of light card.
The card changes the match as it destroys Yugi's god cards and puts him and his three friends Joey, Téa and Tristan inside the millennium puzzle.
While they remain trapped, Yami is left to finish the duel.  Each time he loses life points in the game, he feels his life draining away and being fed to Anubis.
With his life failing and his options running out, Yami must find a way to win the duel and stop Anubis from entering the world.
But as long as he still has his friends behind him and believes in the heart of the cards there's always hope.
